A BRAAVO “train-the-trainers” training and event was successfully organized on 15th of November in Athens. BRAAVO stands for “Bringing Road safety Awareness and Advocacy to Voluntary Organizations” and is a traffic safety education programme for adolescents and young drivers that was developed in the context of the FIA Transformation Road Safety Grant Programme “Promoting Traffic Safety Culture in Youth” by the Greek Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas” involving the South African “Automobile Association of South Africa” (AA) and the Mexican “Asociacion Nacional Automovilistica (ANA A.C). The representatives of the participating FIA Clubs Mr. Philip Purnell and Mr. Saul Alcantara, respectively, attended the training and exchanged knowledge and experience in the countries involved. The trainers were Engineers, Psychologists and Sociologists, staff of the RSI “Panos Mylonas”. The agenda included topics such as “adolescents and risky behavior”, “teaching methodology” and information concerning the four main killers on the roads that is speeding, non-use of seat belt & helmet, drink driving and distraction. Moreover, the trainees attended a practical training on simulators equipment: Alcohol and distraction goggles, distract-a-match, reaction test device, collision weight scale, impact and roll over simulators. The representatives of the Clubs expressed their satisfaction with the content of the programme and stated that they are ready to use the knowledge gained in order to inform the young people in their countries through trainings and campaigns, using also the resources and tools delivered by RSI.
